Autumnal Equinox 2008: The Wind, Waves and Healing Drum

What energies will guide us through our next Healing Drum Retreat? Let’s look at the astrological events and the day in the wheel of the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar.

The Full Harvest Moon occurs on September 15th, 2008. In the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar this day is Six Ik, or Wind. Where will the wind carry us? The wind is never seen, yet we feel its presence.

The Healing Drum Retreat begins on Friday, September 19th with our drum making and moccasin making classes in the evening. This day is Ten Cimi, a sign of finding one’s true identity through humility and grace.

Saturday is 11 Manik, or Deer, a more playful day full of the dance of spiritual awakening and recognition of the beauty of it all. This will be a joyful moment of realizing the simplicity of living the dream. What a wonderful day for our practice of meditation, learning new tools for our journey, and experiencing our light through drumming and singing! This playful energy will continue with our dreamcatcher class, an activity that will bring out the inner child in us all!

Sunday 12 Lamat, or Star. On this day we bring the power of the simplicity we found yesterday, and with the solid foundation we expand into our new consciousness, with harmony and a clearer perspective. With this grand state of focus and attention we will practice the tools we have learned this weekend, with a group focus on creating shifts in our own lives and perceptions. What a wonderful energy around the entire Healing Drum Retreat!

Will we be ready for the equinox, and the shift that follows? At an equinox, neither Earth’s north pole nor its south pole is tilting away from or toward the sun. Both poles are more or less evenly illuminated. This pivotal day is 13 Muluc, or Water. We do truly complete a cycle on this day, and may be surprised by what follows! Be prepared for the unexpected, but understand that divine guidance is with you in the gentle flow of Muluc. The equinox reminds us that while our earthly existence is cyclical, it is always complete. This September equinox marks the beginning of northern hemisphere autumn and southern hemisphere spring, the transition of our seasons that is shown in the yin-yang symbol, flowing from the one to the other, with balance and grace.
